The goal of this study was twofold: to specify the differences between the eye-movement pattern of skilled compared to unskilled lookouts, in order to propose a screening tool; 2. and to test whether training changes the eye-movement patterns pruduced by the skilled lookouts. Such changes would imply that experts produce a special pattern that may be utilized for future training programs. The results of the first experiment showed that although significant differences were found between performance measures in the two groups, no systematic difference was found between these groups in the eye-movements measures. The results of the second experiment indicated overall improvement in the performance of the skilled lookouts after training, accompanied by an apparent change in their eye-movement pattern. Compared with previous measures noted before training, the eye-movements became more focused and less dispersed over the entire image.
